Social Justice and Medicine: Becoming Agents for Change .
OrthoEvidence Journal (OE Journal) - OE Original
OE Journal. 2020;8(24):3This work explores the integral role clinicians can play in advancing social justice within healthcare. While medicine has traditionally prioritized the biomedical model, this discussion highlights the necessity of addressing social determinants of health—such as income, education, housing, and systemic discrimination—to truly improve patient outcomes. It challenges clinicians to see beyond clinical symptoms and adopt a holistic, advocacy-driven approach that accounts for structural inequities. Practical strategies are introduced through the A.D.V.O.C.A.C.Y. acronym, empowering clinicians to act as agents of change and uphold health as a human right.
