Prolotherapy for Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy: Powered by OE M.I.N.D. .
Prolotherapy, an injection-based regenerative therapy using dextrose or glucose, was evaluated for treating rotator cuff tendinopathy through meta-analysis of 9 RCTs. Compared to control (placebo or physical therapy), prolotherapy led to small but statistically significant improvements in pain and composite outcomes at short- and long-term follow-up, though these did not exceed established thresholds for clinical importance. Corticosteroid injections outperformed prolotherapy in composite outcomes within 6 months, but not beyond. Pain relief was similar between groups at all time points. No serious adverse events were reported, and evidence certainty ranged from low to moderate.
