OE Journal. 2022;10(17):2Post-COVID conditions (PASC) may persist for months or years and are linked to elevated perioperative risk. Common sequelae include fatigue, dyspnea, cognitive impairment, and cardiovascular complications. New evidence highlights persistent brain changes and biomarker alterations. Surgery within 7 weeks of COVID-19 infection increases mortality, especially with ongoing symptoms. Updated ASA/APSF guidelines recommend individualized risk assessment and delaying surgery ≥7 weeks if symptoms persist.
