Real-world data are essential for understanding how vaccines perform outside controlled trial settings. Vaccine effectiveness studies help answer whether vaccination truly reduces infection, severe illness, and hospitalization across diverse populations—something efficacy trials alone cannot fully capture. Early observational evidence has consistently shown that the Pfizer/BioNTech mRNA vaccine delivers strong protection in community and healthcare settings, with encouraging signals even against the B.1.1.7 variant. Emerging data also suggest the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine reduces COVID-19–related hospitalizations. Together, these findings reinforce confidence that widespread vaccination can meaningfully curb the pandemic.
