COVID-19: Long-Lasting Health Effects Among Survivors .

Growing evidence now shows that a considerable number of people recovering from COVID-19 continue to face lasting health challenges long after the acute infection ends. Across multiple recent studies, persistent symptoms such as fatigue, muscle weakness, dyspnea, chest discomfort, sleep problems, and mood disturbances appear commonly, even months after recovery. A large Lancet cohort reported that more than 75% of survivors experienced at least one ongoing symptom at six months, with quality-of-life impairments frequently reported. Research also indicates a clear link between initial disease severity and long-term effects, including lung diffusion defects and mental health concerns. Most available studies remain small and short-term, underscoring the need for larger cohorts, longer follow-up periods, and focused investigation into predictors of prolonged post-COVID morbidity.
