Anxiety and Depression in the COVID-19 Pandemic: Are We Doing Enough ?

Survey results from Mexico paint a concerning picture of how quarantine has shaped mental health. More than half of respondents reported symptoms linked to anxiety or depression, with sadness, fear, and despair surfacing most often. Medical workers appeared especially affected, reflecting similar patterns seen internationally. Despite widespread distress, only a small fraction sought professional support, leaning instead on coping strategies like exercise, meditation, prayer, or virtual social contact. The findings point to a clear need for stronger communication channels, accessible support systems, and targeted outreach to higher-risk groups as distancing measures continue.
