OE BEST PRACTICES
There is much debate about the best practices for surgeons during the COVID-19 pandemic. One of which emphasized is evidence-based approaches, to ensure patient safety and surgical efficiency. The importance of prioritizing urgent and emergency procedures while deferring elective cases when resources are strained is analyzed. Strategies include strict infection control measures, use of personal protective equipment, and adapting surgical workflows to minimize exposure risks; additionally, there is the need for clear communication among surgical teams, ongoing evaluation of evolving evidence, and flexibility in decision-making as circumstances change. Ultimately, a surgeon's goal is to balance patient care with healthcare system sustainability.
