Research Waste: The Problem of Unpublished Research
Healthcare’s mission to heal is increasingly at odds with its environmental impact. Responsible for nearly 5% of global CO₂ emissions, the sector contributes significantly to the climate crisis—ironically worsening public health. This Insight explores how a culture of disposability, exacerbated by the rise of single-use items, has led to immense medical waste and systemic inefficiencies. But a shift is underway. From circular supply chains to waste recovery, recycling innovations, and policy-driven incentives, global health systems are reimagining care delivery in ways that benefit both people and the planet—without compromising safety or quality.
