Zimmer Biomet, a global medical technology company, signed a definitive agreement to acquire OrthoGrid Systems, Inc., a privately held firm that develops AI-driven surgical guidance systems for total hip replacement. The deal includes OrthoGrid’s Hip AI® fluoroscopy-based surgical assistance platform, two additional FDA-cleared orthopedic applications, and more than 40 related patents. OrthoGrid’s technology uses real-time fluoroscopic imaging and artificial intelligence to help surgeons with tasks such as measuring leg length and optimizing implant placement without the need for preoperative CT scans. The acquisition is intended to expand Zimmer Biomet’s hip surgery portfolio and strengthen its capabilities in intraoperative guidance and workflow efficiency, with the transaction expected to close by the end of the fourth quarter of 2024.
