An observational study from China found that elevated preoperative P-selectin, a protein associated with platelet activation and vascular inflammation, was associated with more than threefold higher mortality hazard over 3 years. The findings suggest that inflammatory and thrombotic pathways may contribute to poor long-term outcomes after fragility fractures. However, the biomarker requires external validation before it can inform routine risk stratification or treatment decisions.
