Synopsis
54 patients requiring major foot and ankle surgery were randomized to be treated with continuous infusion of local anesthesia or saline placebo after the initial bolus popliteal block for post-operative pain management. After 72 hours observation period, both the pain scores and the need for opiates were significantly less in the treatment group with 0.25% bupivacaine infusion.
