Comparative efficacy of bisphosphonates in short-term fracture prevention for primary osteoporosis: a systematic review with network meta-analyses
Osteoporos Int. 2016 Nov;27(11):3289-330036 randomized controlled trials were included in this network meta-analysis to evaluate the comparative efficacy of different bisphosphonates in the management of osteoporosis. Nine different bisphosphonates were assessed in the included studies, with direct and indirect comparisons evaluated for vertebral fracture, nonvertebral fracture, hip fracture, wrist fracture, and any fracture. Zoledronic acid seemed to be the most effective bisphosphonate for reducing the risk of fracture for vertebral fracture, nonvertebral fracture, and any fracture. While zoledronic acid or alendronate seemed to be the most effective for preventing hip fracture.
