Comparison of 2 different techniques for anatomic reconstruction of the medial patellofemoral ligament: a prospective randomized study

90 patients with symptomatic chronic patellar dislocations or instability were randomized to undergo medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction (MPFL) using either the C-graft technique or the Y-graft technique to observe differences in clinical outcomes at a 2-year follow-up. Results indicated that Lysholm and Kujala scores were significantly better in the Y-graft group compared to the C-graft group at 2 years, however, the differences were below the minimally clinically important difference. In addition, there was no difference found between the two groups in terms of the congruence angle, the lateral patellar angle, the patellar tilt angle, and lateral displacement.
