Effectiveness of Weekly Teriparatide Injection in Postmenopausal Patients with Hip Fractures.

Ninety-two patients with hip fractures were randomized to receive either weekly teriparatide (n=51) or normal saline (n=41). Outcomes of interest included the degree of fracture union as evaluated by the Radiographic Union Score for Hip (RUSH) scores, bone turnover markers, C-terminal telopeptide (CTx) and osteocalcin (OC), and bone mineral density (BMD) assessments through dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry at baseline, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year. Overall, the results of the study revealed that the teriparatide group showed significant improvements in RUSH scores at 3 and 6 months compared to the control group, suggesting better fracture healing. The study concludes that weekly teriparatide improves fracture healing and bone formation in postmenopausal women with hip fractures, indicating a potential benefit in clinical outcomes related to hip fracture management.
