2014 World Congress on Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases: Early efficacy and safety of hyaluronic acid of different molecular weights in knee osteoarthritis

50 patients with knee osteoarthritis were randomized to receive intra-articular injections of intermediate molecular weight (Rusvisk) or low molecular weight (Ostenil) hyaluronic acid to compare the efficacy and safety between the two therapies. Upon analysis, results revealed that hyaluronic acid therapies of differing molecular weights did not significantly differ in terms of weight bearing pain intensity, total WOMAC index scores, or tolerability. However, a significantly higher number of patients allocated to treatment with intermediate molecular weight hyaluronic acid rated their status as improved or much improved.
