2014 World Congress on Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases: Physical therapy in treatment of patients with glenohumeral osteoarthritis

30 patients with moderate glenohumeral osteoarthritis (OA) were randomized to undergo one of two combinations of physical therapy modalities. In group A, patients underwent breaststroke swimming with galvanic current therapy and paraffin therapy, while in group B, patients underwent breaststroke swimming with low-level laser therapy (LLLT) and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS). Results indicated that while both physical therapy regimens improved pain and function, group B demonstrated significantly greater improvements in pain. There were no significant differences between groups with respect to shoulder range of motion.
