Physical therapy benefits upon functional status and fall risk in osteoporotic women
54 women with osteoporosis were randomized to intervention through either a 12-week Balance Training Program or medical treatment and fall prevention education. The purpose was to determine the efficacy of balance exercises in the Balance Training Program on improving function and balance in these patients. The results indicated that the group who went through the 12-week Balance Training Program demonstrated significant improvement in balance on the Berg Balance Scale, whereas no effect was observed in the control group. Functional outcome was also noted to be significantly better in the training group compared to the control group.
