Dr. Goetz speaks on the management of acute mallet finger. Should you use volar or custom splints?
87 patients (age range 18-65 years) having an acute mallet finger were randomized to be immobilized with a custom splint or a volar or dorsal splint. At the study conclusion, the volar, dorsal and custom splints all showed to be equally effective in treatment of acute mallet finger, showing no statistically significant difference in the primary outcome of functionality.
