Vitamin E Cup Cross-linked Polyethylene in Total Hip Arthroplasty: A Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.

Seven randomized controlled trials including 990 patients undergoing THA were included in this meta-analysis comparing VEPE liners versus standard PE liners. Pooled outcomes of interest included radiological parameters (penetration, cup migration, inclination, and anteversion), functional scores (Harris Hip Score, Numeric Rating Scale for pain and satisfaction, and the Activity Scale from the University of California), and adverse events. VEPE liners demonstrated significantly lower penetration and penetration rates at the last follow-up compared to standard PE liners. However, there were no significant differences in cup migration, inclination, anteversion, patient-reported outcomes, or complication rates between the two groups. While VEPE appears to reduce polyethylene wear, its clinical significance remains uncertain due to the limited follow-up duration.
