Vitamin D(3) Supplementation Prior to Total Knee Arthroplasty: AÂ Randomized Controlled Trial.
J Arthroplasty. 2023 Jun;38(6S):S114-S119.137 patients with osteoarthritis scheduled to undergo a total knee arthroplasty were randomized to receive a 50,000IU dose of Vitamin D prior to surgery (n=68) or a placebo capsule (n=69). The primary outcome of interest was the Knee Society Score (KSS) at 3 weeks post-operation. Secondary outcomes of interest included the Timed Up and Go Test (TUGT) and complications post-operation. Outcomes were assessed up to 6 weeks post-operation. Vitamin D3 supplementation provided no significant advantage over placebo for all outcomes, with no differences in outcomes observed.
