Virtually delivered Mindfulness-Oriented Recovery Enhancement (MORE) reduces daily pain intensity in patients with lumbosacral radiculopathy: a randomized controlled trial.
Pain Rep . 2024 Mar 14;9(2):e1132.Seventy-one patients with lumbosacral radiculopathy (LR) were randomized to receive Mindfulness-Oriented Recovery Enhancement (MORE) (n=37) or treatment-as-usual (TAU) (n=34) for 8 weeks. The primary outcome of interest was daily pain intensity, while secondary outcomes included disability, depression, quality of life, mindful reinterpretation of pain, and trait mindfulness. Outcomes were assessed at baseline, daily, and at follow-up. Overall, the results of the study revealed that MORE significantly reduced daily pain intensity (P=0.002) and increased mindful reinterpretation of pain (P=0.029) and trait mindfulness (P=0.035). However, there was no significant improvement in disability, depression, or quality of life. These findings suggest that virtually delivered MORE can effectively reduce daily pain intensity but does not influence broader measures of functioning or mood in chronic LR patients.
