Vibration Therapy As An Intervention For Trochanteric Hip Fracture .
Vibration therapy as an intervention for trochanteric hip fractures - A randomized double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial.
J Orthop Translat . 2025 Jan 25:51:51-58.Sixty-two elderly patients with unilateral trochanteric hip fractures were randomized to receive low-magnitude high-frequency vibration (LMHFV) therapy (n=30) or placebo (n=32). The primary outcome was fracture healing, assessed by CT at 6 weeks and X-rays at 12 months. Secondary outcomes included quadriceps strength, balance, Time Up and Go (TUG) test performance, quality of life, pain, falls, and mortality. Outcomes were followed for up to 26 weeks. Overall, the results of the study revealed that LMHFV significantly improved quadriceps strength, balance, TUG test performance, and quality of life compared to placebo, although no statistically significant difference was seen in fracture healing. These findings suggest that LMHFV may enhance functional recovery following hip fracture surgery.
