Vertebral augmentation using SpineJack vs. balloon kyphoplasty for osteoporotic VCF .

Safety and clinical performance of kyphoplasty and SpineJack® procedures in the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures: a pilot, monocentric, investigator-initiated study

Osteoporos Int. 2016 Jun;27(6):2047-55

30 patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures were randomized to undergo percutaneous vertebral cement augmentation with either SpineJack or kyphoplasty (Kyphx Xpander balloon). The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical, radiographic, and safety outcomes of these two techniques. Outcomes were assessed up to 12 months postoperatively. The results indicated that both groups experienced significant pain relief and improvements in disability & quality of life over the 12-month follow-up with no between-group differences in these outcomes. The intervention period was significantly shorter in the SpineJack group, and this groups had an increased mean correction of anterior and central height, and a greater restoration of the vertebral body angle after 12 months when compared to the kyphoplasty group.
