Use of CMC/PEO gel after lumbar discectomy effective in improving low-back and leg pain .

Erratum to: Clinical assessment of a CMC/PEO gel to inhibit postoperative epidural adhesion formation after lumbar discectomy: a randomized, control study

Arch Orthop Trauma Surg. 2013 Apr 6

93 patients were randomized to assess the effectiveness of carboxymethylcellulose/polyethylene oxide (CMC/PEO) gel in enhancing clinical outcomes after first-time lumbar discectomy. Following laminotomy and discectomy, patients received either the CMC/PEO gel or no additional adhesion prevention treatment (control) prior to incision closure. Results indicated that both techniques led to improved low-back and leg pain; however, the CMC/PEO treatment led to better low-back and leg pain scores after 30 days and better leg pain scores after 60 days when compared to the control treatment.
