Unipolar vs Bipolar Hemostasis in Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Prospective Randomized Trial
J Arthroplasty. 2012 Jun;27(6):1133-7.e1. Epub 2011 Nov 4113 patients scheduled to undergo primary total knee arthroplasty were randomized to receive either unipolar sealer or bipolar sealer for haemostasis. Post-operative results from the study demonstrated that both groups did not significantly differ in regards to mean drain output, hemoglobin level, and hematocrit level. Transfusion requirements were also found to be similar between the two groups.
