Unilateral Versus Bilateral Balloon Kyphoplasty for Osteoporotic Vertebral Compression Fractures
Pain Physician. 2013 Sep-Oct;16(5):447-53Three prospective randomized control trials were identified for inclusion in this meta-analysis comparing the outcomes of unilateral and bilateral balloon kyphoplasty in 151 patients who underwent treatment for osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures. Although both treatments effectively reduced pain in patients, it appeared that unilateral surgery may provide some advantages based on reduced operation times and polymethylmethacrylate consumption. It should be noted that very few studies were included in this meta-analysis.
