Ultrasound- Vs Landmark-Guided Corticosteroid Injections for Shoulder Pain: A Meta-Analysis .
Systematic review and meta-analysis on the effectiveness of ultrasound-guided versus landmark corticosteroid injection in the treatment of shoulder pain: an update.
J Ultrasound . 2023 Sep;26(3):593-604.18 randomized controlled trials (1010 patients) comparing an ultrasound-guided corticosteroid injection against a landmark corticosteroid injection were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis. Outcomes of interest included the Constant-Murley Score (CMS), Oxford Shoulder Score (OSS), Shoulder function test, American Shoulder & Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score, pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) score, Shoulder Disability Questionnaire (SDQ), Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI), range of motion in shoulder abduction, and the incidence of adverse events. Change in scores from baseline to 6 weeks in all outcomes were similar among the two groups, except for VAS pain scores, CMS, and range of motion in shoulder abduction which favored the ultrasound-guided injection group.
