Role of ultrasound therapy in the healing of tibial stress fractures

OE Journal. 2016;4(7):39 Med J Armed Forces India. 2008 Jul;64(3):234-667 military recruits with tibial stress fractures were randomized to receive either ultrasound therapy or placebo ultrasound treatment, both administered for 10 minutes daily. The primary outcome was the length of time to clinical healing. The results displayed a significantly reduced number of days of incapacitation (healing time) in the group who received ultrasound therapy compared to placebo treatment (25.46 vs. 39.93 days). Further study in larger sample sizes and varying orthopaedic conditions is warranted.
