Effects of ultrasound-guided lumbar plexus and sacral plexus block combined with general anesthesia on the anesthetic efficacy and surgical outcomes in elderly patients undergoing intertrochanteric fracture surgery: a randomized controlled trial.

One hundred fifty elderly patients with intertrochanteric fractures were randomized to receive combined ultrasound-guided lumbar and sacral plexus block with general anesthesia (n=75) or general anesthesia alone (n=75). The primary outcome of interest was intraoperative hemodynamic stability. Secondary outcomes included postoperative pain (VAS scores), time to recovery (eye-opening and respiratory function), and incidence of adverse reactions. Outcomes were assessed at key intraoperative and postoperative intervals up to six hours post-surgery. Overall, the study found that combined anesthesia improved hemodynamic stability, reduced postoperative pain, expedited recovery times, and decreased adverse reactions. These findings suggest that this combined approach could optimize anesthesia management in elderly patients undergoing hip fracture surgeries.
