Efficacy of combined ultrasound-guided hydrodilatation with hyaluronic acid and physical therapy in patients with adhesive capsulitis: A randomised controlled trial.

Sixty-two patients with adhesive capsulitis were randomized to receive either ultrasound-guided hydrodilatation with hyaluronic acid plus physical therapy (n=31) or physical therapy alone (n=31). The primary outcome of interest was the Constant score. Secondary outcomes included the Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI) score, numerical rating scale (NRS) for pain (at rest, night, and during motion), 36-item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36), and shoulder range of motion. Outcomes were assessed at baseline, 6 weeks, and 12 weeks post-intervention. Overall, the results of the study revealed that the group receiving ultrasound-guided hydrodilatation with hyaluronic acid showed significantly greater improvements in the Constant score, SPADI, and NRS scores compared to the physical therapy alone group. The findings suggest that combining ultrasound-guided hydrodilatation with hyaluronic acid and physical therapy provides additional benefits in pain reduction and shoulder function improvement in adhesive capsulitis patients over 12 weeks.
