Ultrasound-guided versus palpation-guided corticosteroid injections for tendinosis of the long head of the biceps: A randomized comparative study.

Forty-four patients with tendinosis of the long head of the biceps tendon were randomized to receive a corticosteroid injection at the bicipital groove guided by ultrasound or palpation. The outcomes of interest were pain scores on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Single Assessment Numeric Evaluation (SANE) scores and Quick Disability of the Arm Shoulder and Hand (QuickDASH) scores. Outcomes were assessed 4 weeks and 6 months post-injection. Results of the study revealed all outcomes to be significantly in favour of the ultrasound-guided group compared to the palpation-guided group, across all time-points.
