Efficacy of tranexamic acid on surgical bleeding in spine surgery: a meta-analysis
Spine J. 2015 Apr 1;15(4):752-761.This meta-analysis included 11 randomized trials that investigated the effectiveness of intravenous tranexamic acid (TXA) in blood loss reduction during spinal surgery in comparison to a placebo or no treatment group. A total of 644 patients were included from the 11 studies. Pooling of the data found that TXA reduced intraoperative, postoperative, and total blood loss compared to control groups. TXA use also led to a lower incidence of patients requiring blood transfusion.
