Trigger Finger Corticosteroid Injection With and Without Local Anesthetic: A Randomized, Double-Blind Controlled Trial.

Seventy three patients with a total of 110 trigger fingers undergoing corticosteroid injection for symptomatic trigger finger were randomized to receive the injection with local anesthetic (n=57 injections), or a normal saline placebo (n=53). The primary outcome of interest was pain utilizing the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) following the injection. The corticosteroid alone group demonstrated significantly lower post injection VAS scores than the corticosteroid + local anesthetic group. No adverse outcomes were recorded in either group.
