The role of triclosan-coated suture in preventing surgical infection: A meta-analysis.

Three randomized controlled trials with a total of 2,689 patients undergoing total hip or knee arthroplasty were included in this meta-analysis comparing triclosan-coated sutures (n=1296) and uncoated sutures (n=1393). The main outcome of interest was the odds of surgical site infection, including deep, superficial, and overall rates. No significant differences between groups were found in the pooled rate of overall, superficial, or deep surgical site infection.
