Tranexamic Acid for Rotator Cuff Repair: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.
Am J Sports Med . 2024 Dec;52(14):3673-3679.Six randomized controlled trials (RCTs) including 450 patients undergoing ARCR were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing TXA administration versus a control. Pooled outcomes of interest included intraoperative visualization, postoperative pain, operative time, intraoperative pump pressures, and shoulder swelling. TXA significantly improved intraoperative visualization in three of five studies, reduced postoperative pain scores, and shortened operative time. No significant differences were found in intraoperative pump pressures or postoperative shoulder swelling. These findings suggest that TXA can enhance surgical efficiency and patient recovery in ARCR by improving visualization, reducing pain, and shortening procedure duration.
