Effectiveness and Safety of Fixed-Dose Tranexamic Acid in Simultaneous Bilateral Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Randomized Double-Blind Controlled Trial

OE Journal. 2017;5(9):3 J Arthroplasty. 2016 Nov;31(11):2471-2475120 patients scheduled for simultaneous bilateral total knee arthroplasty were randomized to a single, fixed dose of intravenous tranexamic acid or saline. The purpose of this study was to compare blood loss, transfusion rate, and complications between groups. Results demonstrated significantly lower calculated total blood loss and transfusion rate in the TXA group compared to the control group. No cases of deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism were observed in either group.
