A comparison of outcomes with and without a tourniquet in total knee arthroplasty: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

10 randomized control trials were identified from the literature which compared the use of tourniquets in total knee arthroplasty (TKA). 493 patients were identified from these studies, 249 of which used tourniquets and 244 patients that did not. Meta-analysis revealed that total blood loss was reduced in the tourniquet group, while minor complications were more prevalent. There were no differences in severe complications (DVT, PE) and surgical time between the cohorts.
