The four-year functional result after a displaced subcapital hip fracture treated with three different surgical options
Int Orthop. 2008 Jun;32(3):367-73. Epub 2007 Mar 13129 elderly patients presenting with displaced subcaptial hip fractures were randomized to three forms of surgical treatment to determine their effects on functional performance post-operatively. At 4 year follow-up, total arthroplasty provided the best functional results compared to both internal fixation and hemiarthroplasty. Functional results strongly correlated with patient age at the time of the injury.
