A prospective randomised study of minimally invasive midvastus total knee arthroplasty compared with standard total knee arthroplasty

OE Journal. 2013;1(6):20 Knee. 2012 Dec;19(6):866-71. doi: 10.1016/j.knee.2012.04.009. Epub 2012 May 1880 patients, recruited between November 2004 and February 2008, undergoing total knee arthroplasty were randomised to a mini-midvastus (MMV) approach or a medial parapatellar (MPP) approach. The patients were assessed pre-operatively and at 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 9 weeks, 12 weeks, 6 months, and 12 months post-operatively. There were no significant differences in functional outcome parameters (Knee Society Scores, Oxford Knee Score, SF-36) between the MMV and the standard MPP approach.
