Less Anterior Knee Pain with a Mobile-bearing Prosthesis Compared with a Fixed-bearing Prosthesis
Clin Orthop Relat Res. 2008 Aug;466(8):1959-65. Epub 2008 Jun 4103 patients with unilateral osteoarthritis of the knee scheduled to undergo total knee arthroplasty were randomized to either receive TKA with a posterior-stabilized fixed-bearing knee prosthesis (PS) or a posterior-stabilized mobile-bearing knee prosthesis (PSM). The results at the 1 year follow up indicated that the PSM prosthesis resulted in reduced anterior knee pain, in comparison to use of the PS prosthesis. However, no significant differences between the two groups were observed on the basis of range of motion or function.
