Pain and functional improvement effects of methylene blue injection on the soft tissue around fusion site after traumatic thoracolumbar fixation: A double-blind, randomized placebo-controlled study
Clin Neurol Neurosurg. 2016 Nov;150:6-1250 patients scheduled for posterior pedicle screw fixation of a thoracolumbar fracture were randomized to surgical wound injection of methylene blue or saline. The purpose of this study was to compare postoperative pain and disability between groups at 48 hours postoperatively and at 2- and 6-month follow-up. Results demonstrated significantly lower pain and disability scores throughout follow-up among patients allocated to methylene blue injection versus saline injection.
