Effectiveness of different antithrombotic agents in combination with tranexamic acid for venous thromboembolism prophylaxis and blood management after total knee replacement: a prospective randomized study.

One hundred and eighty patients undergoing primary unilateral total knee arthroplasty were randomized to receive either rivaroxaban (n=60), dalteparin sodium (n=60), or aspirin (n=60) once a day for 30 days. The primary outcomes of interest were drainage volume and thrombotic complication rates. Secondary outcomes of interest included platelet count, blood volume, transfusion rate, intraoperative blood loss, hemoglobin levels, platelet counts, and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT). Drainage volume was significantly higher in the dalteparin group when compared to the rivaroxaban and aspirin groups. No differences were reported between the three groups for thrombotic complication rates.
