Comparison of the use of the humerus intramedullary nail and dynamic compression plate for the management of diaphyseal fractures of the humerus. A randomised controlled study.
Int Orthop. 2007 Jun;31(3):391-5. Epub 2006 Aug 1045 patients with diaphyseal fractures of the shaft of the humerus were randomized to receive treatment using an intramedullary nail (IMN) or dynamic compression plate (DCP). Over 12 months, the patients who received IMN had a significantly shorter mean union time and a lower complication rate than those who received DCP. There was, however, no difference between the two groups for functional outcomes.
