Meta-analysis of the efficacy of ketamine in postoperative pain control in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis patients undergoing spinal fusion

A meta-analysis of 5 randomized controlled trials was conducted to compare the effects of ketamine versus control on postoperative pain control, opioid consumption, and side effects after 72 hours. Morphine consumption was significantly lower in the ketamine group at 24 and 48 hours postoperatively, whereas no difference was seen between the two groups at 72 hours. Additionally, the incidence of nausea/vomiting and pruritis were similar between the two groups, as well as the length of hospital stay in days and postoperative pain measured using the Visual Analog Scale.
