The effect of LSD on sleep-deprived men

The two-night-sleep-loss LSD subjects showed more pronounced changes compared to the one-night LSD group and exhibited more physiological changes such as increases in pulse rate, pupil size and 3-hour plasma levels of LSD. The two-night LSD group also showed more significant decrements in all performance parameters tested. These results suggest that LSD induced a more rapid onset of behavioural and performance decrements in sleep-deprived men. The results are limited by the lack of similar sample sizes among the experimental/control groups and the use of all male subjects.
Study Summary
Thirty-three U.S Army-enlisted subjects underwent a study to test the motor, attention, physiologic and behavioural effects of 1.5 microg/kg LSD after one or two nights' loss of sleep. Thirteen subjects received LSD after being sleep deprived, while the other twenty subjects were in control groups of either LSD alone or just sleep deprivation. Compared to the drug-alone group, the onset of expected LSD behaviour and attention impairments was more rapid. LSD-sleep-deprived subjects showed inaccuracies in problem solving and vigilance tests.
