3 RCTs, including 180 patients with hand osteoarthritis (OA), were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing intra-articular hyaluronic acid (HA) injections with corticosteroid injections. The primary pooled outcome was pain relief, assessed using the visual analogue scale (VAS), while functional outcomes were evaluated descriptively. There was no significant difference in pain relief between HA and corticosteroid injections, with no observed heterogeneity. Functional outcomes were inconsistent and could not be pooled. These findings suggested that both injections provided comparable pain relief, although further research was required to establish their long-term effectiveness and functional benefits.
