2026 AOSSM Annual Meeting: Testosterone Replacement Therapy and Risk of Tendinous and Ligamentous Injuries

OE Journal. 2026;14(13):667 retrospective cohort studies involving testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) cohorts of adult men were included in this systematic review comparing TRT exposure vs non-TRT or matched controls. Outcomes included rotator cuff, Achilles, quadriceps, patellar, and distal biceps tendon injuries, as well as anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries. TRT was generally associated with higher adjusted odds of tendon and ligament injury at one and two years, although the magnitude varied by anatomic site. Overall, the findings suggest that clinicians should consider potential tendon and ligament injury risks when counseling men who currently use or are considering TRT.
