Teriparatide or Alendronate in Glucocorticoid-Induced Osteoporosis

OE Journal. 2013;1(11):166 N Engl J Med. 2007 Nov 15;357(20):2028-39428 patients with glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis were randomised to receive one of two treatments. The first group received a treatment of 20 μg teriparatide daily while the second group received a 10 mg alendronate treatment. The primary outcome was change in bone mineral density at the lumbar spine from baseline to the 18-month follow-up. Results indicated that bone mineral density increased more in patients from the teriparatide group compared to the those in the alendronate group.
