TENS Relieves Acute Posttraumatic Hip Pain During Emergency Transport.
J Trauma. 2007 Jan;62(1):184-8; discussion 188.101 patients (>19 years old) with acute severe pain (>60mm on the Visual Analogue Scale) were randomized to determine the effectiveness of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) on acute pain from non-life threatening trauma. Patients either received the TENS treatment or a sham TENS treatment (electrode placement at the regio inguinalis and at the trochanter major). Results using the VAS scale showed that pain scores were reduced with the use of TENS.
