Telerehab Baduanjin Qigong for Ankylosing Spondylitis .
The effects of baduanjin qigong exercise via telerehabilitation in ankylosing spondylitis: A randomized controlled study.
Explore (NY) . 2025 Mar-Apr;21(2):103078.Fifty-nine patients with ankylosing spondylitis were randomized to Baduanjin qigong via Zoom (n=29) or a supervised home-exercise program (n=30), each 45 min twice weekly for 12 weeks. The primary outcome of interest was change in spinal/hip mobility (BASMI). Secondary outcomes included BASFI, BASDAI, chest expansion, FSS, PSQI, HADS, and ASQoL. Outcomes were assessed pre- and post-intervention at 12 weeks. Overall, the results revealed between-group advantages for Baduanjin in cervical rotation, maximum intermalleolar distance, fatigue, and chest expansion, with delta analyses favoring Baduanjin for sleep quality, function, and lumbar flexion. These findings suggest telerehab Baduanjin can meaningfully improve mobility, fatigue, respiratory excursion, sleep, and function in AS beyond a well-designed home program.
